About the Book
Nyra is Registered Empath, RE-9. Her silver cuff pulses every seven seconds, a public measure of what she is and what the state has decided she costs the world. In the grey veins of Sector Four, she has learned to look away. To endure. To stay numb.
But a glass fell in the night with no one to push it. A code long dormant has awakened somewhere in the grid. And on a wall she passes every morning, someone has painted a golden tear beneath the calling card of a resistance she thought was only rumour.
Some things cannot be cuffed. Some feelings break through anyway.

The Author
Sarah Birtwistle
Sarah Birtwistle has always felt things a little too much. It's something she's learned to live with, and eventually to write from.
By day she works in marketing. By night, after the house goes quiet and the wine is poured, she writes the kinds of stories she's always needed: dark, strange, and stubbornly hopeful. Nyra is her first novel, and its premise about a world that criminalises empathy is not entirely fictional to her.
She lives with her husband, their three children, and a perpetually unfinished cup of tea. She is almost always reading.
